Gretchen Berlin is a Senior Partner at McKinsey, based in Washington DC, with expertise in healthcare, the public sector, and operations practices. With a background as a registered nurse, she advises and serves both public and private healthcare organizations and hospital systems on large-scale frontline workforce and clinical transformations. Gretchen is also responsible for leading McKinsey’s federal healthcare and healthcare and public sector operations work, where her areas of focus include health system strategy, patient experience, quality improvement, cost transformation, organization design, and nursing.
Gretchen has a passion for improving the quality and efficiency of healthcare, especially in improving the retention of healthcare professionals, including nurses. With extensive experience working in both US and UK healthcare systems, Gretchen previously worked as a hospital administrator with a focus on commercial strategy at the NHS. Beyond McKinsey, she is actively involved in various nonprofit organizations such as the March of Dimes, and National Kidney Foundation of the National Capital Region, and Friends of Stead Park, a public park designed to be a safe space for families and children of Washington DC.
