Why Maintaining Social Networks Is So Important For Midlife Men

Why Maintaining Social Networks Is So Important For Midlife Men

It’s Men’s Health Awareness Month, so it’s fitting that for this episode we’ve got engineering and history TV presenter Rob Bell talking about the importance of male friendships and the strength of having a community of men around you.

We discuss why men find it more of a struggle to maintain social networks as they age and what can be done to encourage either group or one to one interactions, so men can thrive at midlife and experience the positive mental and physical effects of community.

We hope you enjoy listening.

The Battle For Our Attention

The Battle For Our Attention

In this episode I, Claire, go solo...discussing how there’s a very real battle going on for our attention. We’ve become slaves to mind dumbing dopamine hits - 24 hour news channels, doom scrolling, switching back and forth between apps, distracting ourselves and arguing with strangers online.

It’s sucking the very life out of us and hijacking our ability to focus on what’s really important. And guess what?  It’s no one else’s responsibility but ours to take back control. And right now, I couldn’t think of any greater, more important choice to make.

This has been and continues to be a real journey for me, and so I hope this episode resonates with you.

Sir Steve Redgrave: The Olympic Legend On Male Mental Health At Midlife

Sir Steve Redgrave: The Olympic Legend On Male Mental Health At Midlife

In this week’s episode we’re thrilled to be speaking to Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave. Steve is the most successful male rower in Olympic history, and the only man to have won gold medals at five consecutive Olympic Games in an endurance sport.

We talk to Steve about the challenges of finding direction after such a long and stellar career, the challenges of midlife and the impact low testosterone can have on men at this time of life, both physically and emotionally.

We covered goal setting, motivation and the importance of quantifying goals and taking incremental steps towards them on a daily basis.

This really is an inspiring podcast and we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed chatting to Sir Steve.

Striving Vs Letting Go (and Being Content!)

Striving Vs Letting Go (and Being Content!)

In this episode we discuss how to balance striving vs letting go. This is easier said than done, especially in today’s ‘always on’ society. The expectations we place on ourselves have multiplied and it can lead to a great deal of unhappiness and even burnout.

So we walk you through some key insights, hopefully providing you with some ideas on how to achieve your goals and aspirations, but also feel a sense of contentment and peace. After all, life isn’t about the success we achieve and our possessions, but more about what we learn and who we become on life’s glorious journey!

From TV to Trading: Midlife Career Change with Patrick Reid

From TV to Trading: Midlife Career Change with Patrick Reid

Making a career change at any point in your life can feel scary or overwhelming, but in midlife we may have career changes forced upon us - or we may just realise that what we are doing isn’t lighting us up.

In this episode I, James am joined by Patrick Reid who at the age of 38 gave up a successful career in television to move into something in which he had no experience - trading on a futures desk in The City.

Patrick started as an apprentice and then worked his way up to managing millions of pounds. Today Patrick runs Adamis Principle which helps people transition to a trading career - even getting their own desk in The City if they want.

I talk to him about he made his decision, how that played out for him and how he helps people today. I do hope you find this interesting and enjoyable.

Claire's Fitness Journey Over The Past 18 Months

In this episode, I Claire, go solo, talking about my fitness and health journey over the past 18 months.

It’s been really up and down and I want to share what forced the change, as well as what I learnt and what I had to let go of.

There was a sort of personal identity for me around fitness and health and going through these shifts was humbling but incredible for my self growth.

Sometimes we just see people’s highlight reels, and my hope is that you feel seen and heard via my story.
